Mission Accomplished

I never thought I would write this post.

Not because I didn't believe in the community, but because I don't have a huge following here on my blog.

When I wrote my last post, A Friend In Need, I outlined three goals that I wanted to accomplish for my good friend, Ken Starks:

  1. Purchase a new edge-lit monitor to alleviate the illness he was suffering as a result of the backlight on his old one.

  2. Cover his cancer medications for a substantial period.

  3. the surgery he required to save his life.

I'm proud to say that, thanks to a number of people who stepped up to help and the community at large, we accomplished all these goals and more.

Words can not describe the gratitude I feel toward each and every person who helped make this possible. I most certainly didn't do this alone. Here is a list of just a few people who were key to the success of this campaign:

  • David Rea - he put together the IndieGoGo campaign and was tireless in his efforts to seek out people to get involved. He was key in getting this moving. Thank you, David.

  • Zeb Swaim - a member of the board in charge of Reglue. He and his wife bent over backwards to promote this campaign. Thank you.

  • Matthew Hartley - anchor for The Linux Action Show, and key in getting the word out. He led a battle cry through the Linux community that brought in over $10,000 in a single day. Amazing. Thank you, Matt.

  • Maxx Daymon - a member of the community who helped get the word out. Thank you, Maxx.

  • Tony Huffins and the FANSS Organization - They helped get the word out, and run a great cause themselves. Thank you.

Over 1400 members of the community turned out and donated their hard-earned cash to help out somebody they've never met. Ken will not only get the life-saving surgery he needs, but through the efforts of this campaign, has secured the help of a surgeon who is willing to do the surgery for a fraction of the cost.

We made a difference.

We saved a life.

Thank you.
