Let the Games Begin

I like games. I also like puzzles. Everyone loves winning prizes.

Let's combine these things.

Starting today, and continuing until somebody wins the grand prize, a portion of my royalties equal to the portion I contribute to Reglue will be placed in a pot ($0.50 per eBook, $1.00 per paperback). This pot will continue to grow, and include all subsequent books I release (except for 100% charity books). And just to make it worth while, I'm gonna start the pot at $20.

What do you have to do to win my prize pot? Simple...

Solve my puzzle.

Here's the scoop:

In The Time Weaver, when Seth first opened his father's book, he took it to work for his best friend Dave to check out. Turns out, Dave studies cryptography in his spare time. Dave scanned several pages from the book and uploaded them to various places on the Internet for people to help him decipher.

There are five pages in total. Each Wednesday for the month of October, I'll post a hint about the location of a particular page, with the fifth and final page being posted on Halloween, the 1-year anniversary of The Time Weaver. (Can you believe it's been one year already?) If you follow my endeavors online, these pages should be simple to find. Once you've found them, you must decipher them.

Here are the rules:

  1. You must decipher all five pages, and solve the puzzle held within in order to claim the grand prize. How quickly this puzzle is solved and how many books I sell during that time will determine the final pot. (So if your serious about winning, you should also be serious about helping me promote my books! ;))

  2. Please don't spam my books everywhere online. If I find out you've done this, I will disqualify you. Word of mouth is the best advertisement, so refer it to your friends, family, coworkers, or anyone else you think might be interested. I will be the sole judge on your spamminess, and my decisions will be final, though I will be fair and lean toward not-spam when I can.

  3. The only people not eligible to win the grand prize are my immediate family, and anyone who helped me put together the puzzle. (No, I will not tell you who helped me, and neither will they!)

  4. No purchase is necessary. You can make an attempt at a solution regardless of whether you've bought my book, read my book, reviewed it, or never heard of me.

  5. A complete solution will not only include the answer to the puzzle, but how you arrived at that answer, including all work. If you made paper notes, scan them.

  6. The winner agrees to be showcased on my blog, and generally celebrated as an absolute genius. Because seriously, if you think this is going to be easy, you have another think coming.

  7. I will not give you hints beyond what I post to this blog. Don't ask me.

So, without further ado, let the games begin!
